Xin Jiang, PhD, Post-doctoral Researcher

Xin is from Sichuan province in China, which is well-known for delicious foods, beautiful landscapes, and pandas. Since one of Xin’s beloved family members suffered from dementia, she decided to study the cause of neurological diseases as her long-term research project. She moved to Shanghai to start her Ph.D. training at the Institute of Neuroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011. She joined Dr. Jin Xu’s laboratory to study the functions of an ALS/FTD (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Frontotemporal Degeneration)-related RNA binding protein FUS. She found that FUS regulates circadian rhythm through a transcriptional feedback loop. After receiving her Ph.D. degree, Xin joined Dr. Lagier-Tourenne’s laboratory in 2019 to continue her research journey in the ALS/FTD field. One of her current projects is focusing on the translation of dipeptide repeats in C9orf72-related ALS/FTD. She is also testing novel TDP-43 antibodies in different model systems, wishing to find a new therapeutic strategy for TDP-43-associated neurodegenerative diseases. In her free time, Xin enjoys hiking, cooking, drawing, and taking care of her plants.
